How to Choose an Auspicious Muhurta for Marriage, Travel, Business
Muhurta — electional astrology — is the science of choosing the right moment to begin an activity so that the cosmic energies support it. Classical Parashari texts devote hundreds of verses to it; the principle is simple: the chart of the start of an action shapes its outcome.
The 5 universal factors
- Tithi — Pratipada, Dwitiya, Tritiya, Panchami, Saptami, Dashami, Trayodashi are generally auspicious; Chaturthi, Navami, Chaturdashi, Amavasya are restricted.
- Nakshatra — soft / fixed / movable / mixed character matters. Pushya, Hasta, Anuradha, Revati are pan-auspicious.
- Yoga — Siddhi, Shubha, Sukarma, Amrita are best; Vyatipata, Vaidhriti, Vishkumbha avoided.
- Karana — Bava, Balava, Kaulava, Taitila are favourable.
- Vara — match weekday to the activity (Friday for marriage, Thursday for spiritual, Monday for healing).
Activity-specific rules (Parashari)
- Marriage (Vivaha) — strict avoidance of Krishna Paksha, Kataka/Mesha rashi for bride, Guru-Shukra astam.
- Griha Pravesh — Uttara Phalguni, Uttara Ashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada, Rohini, Mrigashira; daytime entry; Sunday/Tuesday avoided.
- Vehicle purchase — Pushya, Ashwini, Hasta, Chitra Nakshatras + Mercury or Jupiter strong.
- Business launch — Wednesday + Mercury well-placed + Hasta/Punarvasu Nakshatra + waxing Moon.
- Surgery — avoid Tuesday/Saturday; choose Krishna Paksha Ashtami-Trayodashi; avoid lord-of-house body part affliction.
