Birth Time Rectification (BTR): How to Verify Your Lagna

Birth time accuracy is the foundation of Vedic astrology. Every divisional chart, every dasha calculation, every Lagna rises from this single number. Yet hospital records often round to the nearest 5 or 10 minutes, family memory drifts, and the gap between “born around 6 AM” and “born at 6:14 AM” can mean the difference between a Libra and Scorpio Lagna.

What BTR is

Birth Time Rectification is the systematic process of cross-checking known life events against the chart they should produce, then adjusting birth time until the chart matches the events. It is reverse-engineering, not guesswork.

The 4 BTR methods

  1. Event-based — known dates of marriage, first job, first child, parent's death are matched to expected Dasha periods. The birth time that produces these matches wins.
  2. Pranapada — a precision point computed from sunrise + birth time; should align with key houses for life events.
  3. Tatkalika Lagna — the rising point of the moment a major event occurred should align with the natal Lagna's sub-vargas.
  4. Physical features / temperament — Lagna sign and Lagna lord placement give specific bodily and temperamental traits that can confirm or rule out a candidate Lagna.

When BTR is essential

  • Birth time given in 5-minute or 10-minute rounded form
  • Major life events not matching expected Dasha lord
  • Lagna sign on the boundary (last 2° or first 2°)
  • Two siblings born minutes apart with very different lives

Run free BTR analysis — provide 3-5 known life events and we'll compute the most consistent birth time, with Pranapada and Tatkalika cross-checks.
