Ayurdaya: Vedic Longevity Analysis & The Three Lifespan Methods

Ayurdaya — lifespan analysis — is among the most delicate areas of Vedic astrology, approached with respect and never with certainty. The classical texts (Parashari) give three computational methods:

The 3 longevity methods

  1. Pindayu — sums life-units assigned to each planet based on its strength.
  2. Nisargayu — natural lifespan based on the strongest planet's contribution.
  3. Amsayu — based on the Lagna's longitude reduced to a numerical lifespan.

The 3 longevity ranges

  • Alpa-ayu (short life) — <32 years tradition; modern interpretation: vulnerability period 0-32
  • Madhya-ayu (medium) — 32-64 years
  • Purna-ayu (full) — 64-100+ years

Maraka analysis

“Maraka” means death-inflicting — the 2nd and 7th house lords are classified as primary marakas because they mark transitions out of one life chapter. The Mahadasha or Antardasha of these lords during a vulnerable longevity period is the timing window classical texts watch.

What modern reading suggests

The texts were written before modern medicine, sanitation, and longevity science. Treating Ayurdaya as an absolute lifespan is misleading; treating it as periods of vulnerability where extra care matters is wiser.

Run free Ayurdaya analysis — Pindayu, Nisargayu, Amsayu computations, longevity range, and Maraka period awareness — for self-care insight, not fatalistic prediction.
